We would love to bring our Food Explorers classes to your community. Here's what you need to know:
Food Explorers instructors aim to empower and inspire children to create delicious food, gain confidence in the kitchen and listen to their bodies.
At Food Explorers, we believe in a message of food neutrality. We teach anything from chocolate to salads, and everything in between. You won't hear us say the words "healthy", "unhealthy", "junk food", "diet" or "bad".
Kids start to develop a relationship with food at a young age, and our classes provide a neutral, no-pressure environment for kids to like, dislike, try or not try any and all foods.
Katie founded Food Explorers in January 2018, after quitting a job as a Retail Dietitian with no back up plan. While that job wasn't the right fit, Katie discovered the joys of kids cooking classes and how it combined her love of food and working with kids.
Food Explorers started as a little side dream, and has a grown in a full-time, ever growing company with multiple instructors, over 100 summer camps, and an immeasurable number of community partners, schools and recreation departments that as a whole, make the Food Explorers mission possible.
After welcoming her baby boy, Jack, in July of 2021 and then embarking on the journey of baby led weaning and introducing foods and flavors, Katie dove even deeper into how our relationship with food can impact us from childhood. Working together with Lara, our mission of Food Neutrality was introduced to our classes.
We hope to always inspire kids to explore new foods and flavors, teach them valuable cooking skills and more importantly to show kids that food is meant to be enjoyed, not feared.
We do not require a kitchen.
We often teach in classrooms, conference rooms and teachers lounges.
We do require sink access and outlets.
We provide all cooking equipment and ingredients!
We do require tables and chairs.
All Food Explorers recipes are nut free.
We takes allergies very seriously. We collect allergy information before each session begins, and ask parents to inspect ingredients before each class when an allergy is present.
All instructors carry their Food Handlers safety certificate, are CPR certified, Epi-Pen certified and receive training regarding allergies on a frequent basis.
We can accommodate up to 12 children per session. We offer classes for anywhere from 2nd grade through 8th grade. Our most successful classes are for 2nd-5th grade,
Classes range in length from 4 weeks to 10 weeks.
We work with Parks and Recreation to use their registration software, and work their fee into our total cost per child.
